Zara & Ahmed Toronto, ON

Zara and Ahmed's wedding was a full three-day Pakistani celebration that brought together family from across North America, the UK, and Pakistan. The energy from the moment we arrived on Mehndi day was unlike anything we had experienced — the dhol was already playing, the aunties were dancing, and the children were running through the venue in their finest clothes.

The Nikah ceremony was held in a beautifully converted loft space in downtown Toronto, with exposed brick walls and floor-to-ceiling windows. The industrial setting contrasted beautifully with the traditional ceremony taking place within it — a metaphor, perhaps, for Zara and Ahmed's own lives as second-generation Pakistanis building something new while honoring what came before.

The Walima was the most elaborate event of the three days — a 400-person reception with a live band, a custom stage, and a dessert table that stretched the length of an entire wall. Ahmed's surprise performance of a song for Zara brought the entire room to a standstill. We caught every second of it.
